Kate Scow is Professor of Soil Science and Microbial Ecology at UC Davis. She is also Director of the Russell Ranch Sustainable Agriculture Facility that hosts the Century Experiment, a landmark study of how farm management practices impact the ecology of a farm over seasons, years, and decades.
As part of this research programme, Scow investigates relationships between soil microbial diversity and critical soil functions, including biogeochemical cycling, soil structure, organic matter. Her work also explores connections between soil biology and the rapidly evolving concept of soil health.
One of Kate’s most notably paper is “Increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) via organic inputs is a key strategy for increasing long‐term soil carbon storage and improving the climate change mitigation and adaptation potential of agricultural systems.”
Read Kate’s other articles here, hers is an entirely fundamental body of work.
